One of our clients told us last week that spending money on PR was the best investment he’s made in a long time. He said it had instantly brought his business the credibility it had been seeking for years with large companies.
We were chuffed of course. And it got us thinking that us PR professionals are a modest lot. Maybe a bit like cobblers’ children having bad shoes, our industry doesn’t always do its own PR brilliantly.
So here are 10 quotes which underline just why our industry should have great confidence in its own value. And why investing in PR could just be the best investment you ever make:
Sir Martin Sorrell (a top ad man)
“…PR is just as well equipped [as ad agencies] – perhaps better equipped in some respects – to take advantage of the changes wrought by digital and social media. As a trade, PR should be very confident about its future.”
Mike Cherenson, former chair of PRSA
“The future of SEO is not in the technology, it’s in the ability to tell stories that readers and Google will find interesting… and that’s public relations.”
SEO expert Adam Torkildson on why PR is now key to SEO
“PR has made a full-on 180 degree swing. I started in PR as a major. Now it is the ultimate, because it is about who you actually, really, know. It’s the buzz you create. And how much value you provide your community of followers in return.”
“If I was down to the last dollar of my marketing budget I’d spend it on PR!”
“A good PR story is infinitely more effective than a front page ad.”
Daniel J Boorstin
“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some hire public relations officers.”
John D Rockefeller
“Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing.”
“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”
“People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic.”
“Without publicity there is no prosperity.”
“If you think it’s expensive to hire a PR professional, wait until you hire an amateur.”
If you’ve got any other good ones, let us know and we’ll post them too.
